Referring to my despatch No.168 of 10th. June,
Hong-Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation represent inadequacy of bank note issue; demand for paper currency in excess of authorised limit;commercial transactions seriously affected by deficiency.Hong-Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation ask (whether) will you sanction additional issues of note issue and also legislation necessary provided that dollars of equal amount are deposited in Colonial Treasury. Chamber of Commerce making joint representations, if the Straits Settlements Go- vernment note issue hastened great relief; explanatory despatch follows."
