With reference to my telegram of the 12th. inst.
of which a copy is enclosed, I have the honour to transmit for your favourable consideration copies of a letter from the
Chief Manager of the Hong-Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation and of an extract from the minutes of a meeting of the Commit-
tee of the Hong-Kong General Chamber of Commerce held on the 13th. instant in reference to the Bank Note issue in the Colony.
2. The views of the commercial community are
so fully expressed in the words of the Chairman and other Men- bers of the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce that I do not feel called upon to do more than express a strong hope that the method of meeting the demand for note issue proposed by Mr.Jackson in his letter and approved of by the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce may command your full approval.
