Government House.

Hong-Kong, 15th. July,1898.

With reference to your despatch No.150 of the

9th.ultimo, I have the honour to report that Mr.H.E.Wodehouse is correct in his statement that he only drew salary in Hong- Kong up to the 31st.March last and not up to the 6th. April

as wrongly stated in his leave certificate.

The latter date was entered by the Acting Trea- surer in anticipation of Mr.Wodehouse drawing (as he should have done) salary in Hong-Kong up to the day of his departure.

Mr.Wodehouse should, therefore, be allowed to

draw salary as from the 1st. April through the Crown Agents and in view of the decision conveyed in your despatch No.146 of the 3rd. June you may possibly be disposed to allow him the benefit of the leave rate of exchange during that period of his vacation leave which he spent in Hong-Kong and during which he received pay in local currency, viz., from the 26th. to the 31st.March inclusive.

e Right Honourable

JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN,M.P.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient

Humble Servant,

7 Mar

Major-General,

Administering the Government.
