opposite the Queen's Statue and French Street respectively have been made. As however these piers are not to replace any public piers existing at the time of the beginning of the Praya Reclamation Scheme and as no funds are at present avail- able for their construction, they will not be commenced till reference has been made to you.
5. As regards the 3rd. and 4th. paragraphs of
your Despatch No.138, I am informed by the Director of Public Works that the Government possesses diving dresses, air pumps &c.,as well as other plant which could be adapted for the work required, and that it will be also possible to purchase or hire locally every appliance necessary, or even to find a contractor who would erect Pedder Street Pier and supply all the requisite plant.
I am advised therefore that under these cir-
cumstances no plant need be specially procured to be despatch-
ed with the material of the pier.
