arrested again on March 1st. 1898 and held for trial until March

8th.although I pleaded guilty

The Police Magistrate refused to commit me

went to the U. S. Consul and said I was sorry to have made him so much unnecessary trouble and know that I should have come to the Consul first and made my charges. I thought the Police Magistrate would only fine the Mate a small amount and am sorry he got such a severe sentence. I withdrew my request for discharge on ground of " cruel treatment" and surrender myself to the U. S.

Consul as a deserter. The Captain of "R. R. Thomas" is willing to discharge me on ground of "Mutual Consent " and I hereby peti-

tion the U. 3. Consul to grant such petition."
