him passing in this way this year. I have also seen him pass-
ing last year. I have seen him pass about 20 times since the
gambling has been going on.
By Inspector Quincey: -I have seen you pass -
20 times since the 8th.moon of last year (September 1896).
Sometimes you were in a chair and sometimes walking. I have
seen you once in a chair with a friend in another chair. I
do not know where you were going to.
Au Hing, P. C. 145,states: -I am a Policeman in
the Hongkong Police Force. I have been on the Detective Staff
for 8 years. I have known of 2 gambling houses, one at Wa
Lane & one at Cheung Hing Street. Previous to the arrest of
Sam Yin they were both open off and on for 3 or 4 years.
The business done by each was large. The two houses were
able to be kept open because the Police would not report
them as they had received bribes.
I know by common notoriety that Inspectors
Stanton, Baker,& Quincey were in receipt of bribes. I have not
seen money given to Quincey personally, I have only heard
people talk about him receiving bribes. I cannot say whether
the three Inspectors received the money.
If these three Inspectors had not received
bribes it would not have been possible to have kept the
houses open. I have always been on good terms with Quincey.
