try is 45 $5". That means Inspector 45 $5 a day. I wrote
the first entry on the 1st.day of the 1st.moon. That en- try refers to that day. I wrote the 2nd. entry on the2nd day. That entry refers to that day.
I have another record of bribes paid. I recog- nise the paper produced (List H). It is a list of
bribes given to different persons. There is an entry re- ferring to the Inspector in it..It is the entry "43 $5"
That means $5 bribes to Inspector 45. The $5 a day was paid to Sam Cha. It was always paid to Sam Chá for
Yeung Fat for Stanton. I began topay the money to Sam
Cha when the gambling was opened about 5 years ago. I
paid the money up to the 19th.of the 5th.moon (18th.
June). I paid every 5 days $25 from the time the gan-
bling was opened. I kept other books besides the papers
produced. The books were made up from the lists made up
at the gambling house. The lists made up at the gambling
house showed the receipts and expenditure for each day.
The bundle of papers produced are accounts
made up at the gambling house. The total amount of the
bribes paid according to list H was entered in these
daily accounts. A balance was struck daily. I recognise
the bundle of books produced. They are the ledgers. The
