The same difficulty has been found in the
Sanitary Department, where an increase has recently been re- mended in the rate of pay of Interpreters from $15 rising to $20,to $20 rising to $30.
It was found that competent interpreters
could not be obtained, or if obtained would not stay on the
old rates of pay.
The increase in the pay of the First Class
Sergeant Interpreters recommended by me would entail an ex-
penditure of $420 per annum.
