Notes by the Visiting Surgeon. Rae 21 MAS 98

(V. Marginal References)

1. This lad made a good recovery. Though

small,he was twenty four years of age.

2. This suggestion was at once carried into

effect.I directed all the unpainted bed-boards in the Hos-

pital to be planed on both sides.

3. The regulation is that a night soilcoolie

shall go round all the wards at least four times a day, emp-

tying bed pans containing discharges, and placing Jeyes'

Fluid in the empty pans. I satisfy myself by regular inspec-

tion at irregular hours that this is being done. Commodes

with bed pans are only permitted in the wards where the con

dition of the patient in my opinion renders himself unable

to leave the ward to go to stool,

4. Careful consideration of these cases in

light of their previous history led me to the conclusion

that they were not Typhoid fever but severe Remittent fever

One, Chan Siu, died; the other, Fung Kin,made a good and rapid

recovery, the after history of the latter not being that of

a case of typhoid fever.

5. Stoves have been provided in the new Sur

gical wards. The Directors have further under consideration

the substitution of stoves in all the other wards for the fire

places at present in use.
