V. Note 4.

seemed to me to be suffering from Typhoid Fever, viz., Fung

Kin and Chan Siu, the former had just used a bed pan, there

was no disinfectant in this pan. It is most important that in

any case at all resembling Typhoid, Jey's fluid or some

similar uisinfectant should be kept in the bed pan, indeed

I understood it was the custom now to treat all bed pans in

Two of the cases in the fever ward ("Fuk"}

this manner.

V. Note 5.

The new surgical wards below the Mortuary

should be provided with stoves or fireplaces as at present

there is no manner of heating them, the flagged floor is a

mistake and I recommend that it be boarded over.

V. Note 6.

"Mr. Chung was out when I called but arrived

when I was half way round accompanied me round the rest of

the building.

V.Note 7.

*He informed me that most of the "fever"

cases are treated by Chinese methods. This means that in

many cases the patients die of sheer exhaustion from the

lack of suitable nourishment.

V. Note 8.

He also told me that a case of compound frac–

ture of the leg which was admitted some few weeks back died

of tetanus. If this man had been sent to the Govt.Civil

Hospital as he recommended his life would probably have

been saved.
