He, along with Dr. Chungand a head coolie as formerly, accom- panies me round the Hospital at my morning and afternoon inspections daily, and I am able thus to point out anything not in order at the time and on the spot to the party res- ponsible for it.
At the beginning of the winter stoves were placed in the two new surgical wards, and the Directors are now making arrangements for replacing all the fire-places in the other wards by stoves to be placed in the middle of
the wards.
I append a table showing the number of cases
treated during the quarter, with statistics of the corres-
ponuing quarter of 1896. It will be observed that the in-
creased number of patients noted during previous quarters
of the past year continues,995 patients having been under
treatment as compared with 875 during the same three months
of the year 1896.
Of these 995 cases,161 were treated by Dr.
Chung according to Western methods, and I append a further
table showing the diseases that came under his care. Eighteen
cases were discharged to be submitted to foreign treatment
elsewhere, as follows:-ten to Government Civil Hospital, four
to Kennedy Town Hospital, three to the Lunatic Asylum, and
one to Nethersole Hospital.
