The

Consul Yeung Fat has (for reasons no doubt which are easily understood) omitted all mention of this important statement although it comprises more than one half of what he stated

before me and Mr. Dennys on that date.

Yeung Fat was not questioned by either Mr.

Dennys or myself about Cheung Hoi.

We did not know at the time of any one naned Cheung Hoi having had any connection with the Wa Lane gam-

bling.

Yeung Fat went on to say that Cheung Hoi's nickname was Kwai Tau Hoi. That is the name of the man who

Sham In said gave the warning to his partner Tai Pau Chi on the 18th. of June, to stop gambling as a Police raid was im-

minent.

I made enquiry at once for Cheung Hoi & found

that he was well known to the Police and was constantly

seen about the Central Station, but that he had left the Co-

lony after Sham In's conviction. He has not since returned,

but has been seen in Macao in company with Yeung Fat.

It should be mentioned that Yeung Fat was when

in the Police Force in such close connection with the Peti-

tioner that he went by the name of "Stanton's Aide-de-Camp."

A reference to C. S.0.126 of 1891,will show that Cheung Hoi was banished for being a watchman to gam-

blers in 1881,on your recommendation, and that Petitioner

reported
