If the Petitioner knew of the house, as I be-

lieve he did, and did not report it the punishment that has been meted out to him is in my opinion too small for the

offence.

Paragraph 14. It is easy to understand now

why the Petitioner was so anxious to be furnished with co- pies of the statement Yeung Fat and Tang Chung made in the Gaol and for which he applied to you.

If you will refer to that of Yeung Fat you

will observe that he stated as follows on the 14th. July,his statement being committed to writing by Mr. Dennys:-

I heard that he had a share in No. 2 Wa Lane,

I heard that 3 or 4 months ago. Several years ago I heard that Lam Chi had a share in the Cheung Hing & Wa Lane gan-

bling houses. Kwai Tau Hoi's share in the Wa Lane house he

only got in the 2nd.or 3rd.moon of this year,he was away

for 5 years under his banishment. I heard that he was the

master of the Cheung Shau Cotton Shop. Kwai Tau Hoi was

constantly up at the new quarters at the Central Station

sitting with Stanton. “
