Japanese Consulate.

Hong-Kong, 27 th, January, 1898.

I have the honour to inform you, for the in-

formation of His Excellency the Governor, that I have been

appointed by the Japanese Government Consul for Japan in

this Colony. Having not yet received Her Britannic Majesty's

Exequatur, I request that His Excellency the Governor will

be good enough to recognise me provisionally as His Imperial

Japanese Majesty's Consul residing at this port.

I herewith enclose copy of the translation

of His Imperial Japanese Majesty's Commission.
