Victoria Gaol.

20th. January, 1898.

z,-,

As you are well aware that I was sentenc ed

to 6 months imprisonment imprisonment at the Criminal Ses-

sions on the 3rd. August 1897, having been found guilty of re-

ceiving bribes from certain Gambling Houses within the City

of Victoria, and as that sentence has now almost expired, I

humbly beg to acknowledge to you the justness of the ver-

diet, and I pray that you will cause His Excellency the Go-

vernor to be informed, also the Chief Justice and Jurymen wio

found me guilty and sentenced me to the term of imprison-

ment which I so justly deserved for my unfaithfulness to

the trust which was placed in me by my superiors. I should

have admitted this on the 20th. November last but something

withheld me from doing so which I cannot account for and

thinking that I should have to give Queen's evidence if I

did so. Were it possible to do so I assure you I would do

it without the least hesitation but all that I could say

would only amount to supposition.

Hon. F. H. May, C.M.G.

Superintendent, &C.,
