Particulars of the Emoluments attached to the appointment of Hospital Warders engaged in England for Service in the Victoria Gaol, Hong Kong.
Salary - $48 to $160.
Allowances - Quarters, fuel, clothing by 5 light servants, uniform, medical attendance, and medicine. If sick in hospital, a deduction of 1/3rd of each day's pay is made, which in cases of venereal disease is increased to 1.
Pension - at the rate of 15/60ths for the first 10 years with an addition of 1/60th for each succeeding year, not exceeding 40/60ths. Pension is payable on attaining the age of 55 years or in case of retirement on ground of ill-health.
Present value of the Dollar in English money - The present market rate is about 2/2d. Salary is paid in Colony in dollars. Any money sent to England can only be remitted at market rate, but leave salary is payable in gold-using countries at 4/- to the dollar and pension at 3/8.
Bounty of $25 on engagement.
When salary would commence - Half salary from date of embarkation, full salary from date of arrival.
Passage out and home - Married men. Passage out will be granted (but not passage home) on condition of the Officer signing an agreement to refund the cost of passage in the event of his relinquishing his appointment within three years of his arrival in the Colony for any reason other than mental or physical infirmity.
Limits of age - Candidates must be under 30 years of age.
Special qualifications - Must have previous training in hospitals, preferably in Army Medical Service Corps.
Widow's and Orphan's Pension Fund - A deduction of 4% is made from the salary of every Civil Servant as a contribution to the above Fund. No married candidate will be accepted.
No quarters allowed for married men.
