I am directed by Mr Secretary Chamberlain to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 3rd instant requesting to be transferred from Hongkong to a Colony nearer home.
While regretting the circumstances which have led you to desire a transfer, Mr Chamberlain fears that he cannot hold out any hope of being able to meet your wishes at an early date.
