3rd February 1897

Sir,

I beg leave respectfully to request your favourable consideration of my application to be transferred from the Colony of Hongkong, where I have served during the past six years, to a Colony nearer home - and preferably to Gibraltar, Cyprus, or Bermuda.

I am prompted to prefer the above request solely by private and family matters, including my Father's state of health, which I have explained orally to Mr Wilson, Private Secretary, and which are of such a nature as to render it most important that I should be on a nearer Island.

To

The Right Honorable

The Secretary of State for the Colonies
