vide a copy of Accountant General,
T Bengal, letter No. 14426 of 10th March 1873, in which my
pay and allowances were stated to be Rupees 350 per mensem
and there I served till I was transferred to the Colonial
Surgeoncy of Hong Kong, and left Calcutta about the 16th October 1873, to join that appointment.
It would therefore appear, that I am entitled to count
as service for pension from the Indian Government, from the 26th April 1869, to the 16th October 1873, or a period
of four years, five months, and twenty days. This is
supported by a Demi-Official letter from Mr. Alexander
Mackenzie, (Secretary to the Government of Bengal) dated 18th January 1873 (copy annexed) in which he clearly
states, that my service at Kooshtea, both acting and
permanent, will count for pension, and also the period of
my service in Seebsangor, where, after my arrival,
I was also put in charge of the Gaol, which carried extra
remuneration. I forget how much.
I also enclose copies of correspondence regarding my
Indian Pension, including a Despatch from the Secretary
of State for India, to His Excellency The Most Honourable
