I am directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to
acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the // instant, and to inform you that you have been passed as physically fit for service, and to request you to inform District Inspector J.C.
that you have accordingly been selected for appointment as Captain Superintendent,
Police and Fire Brigade, Hongkong,
on the terms communicated to you by the letters from this Department of the 8th and 15th ultimo.
2. The Crown Agents for the Colonies have been instructed to take your passage by the first convenient steamer by which date it is on or after this 27th inst., and I am to request you to inform me whether you will be prepared to start at that time.
3. You should communicate with the Crown Agents, whose address is Downing Street, S.W., as to the agreement which you are required to sign with regard to the cost of your passage.
You will receive a formal letter of appointment from the Governor when you arrive in the Colony.
