I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter 5138/97 of the 23rd. instant enclosing an extract from
a despatch from Mr. Secretary Chamberlain to the Governor of
Hong Kong on the subject of Light dues at that port, which,
in accordance with your request, will be communicated to the
representatives of the other Shipping Companies who are interested
in the matter. On their behalf, as well as on that of
this Company, I am desired to thank you for transmitting this
extract, and to express to you the appreciation of the manner
in which Mr. Chamberlain has dealt with the matter.
