Report on the Local Audit Office and on the

Revenue and other Accounts of the Colony of HONG KONG

examined by the Local Auditor for the year ended 31st

December, 1895.

The extent of the examination is indicated

by the monthly Progress Returns sent home, and they will

show that the programme approved for the year was practi-

cally carried out in its entirety. This programme embraced

the examination in detail of nearly the whole of the

Revenue Accounts of the Colony with the exception of the

Assessed Taxes.

2. In the Report on 1894 it was stated that good

work had been done in getting the accounts of Squatters'

Licenses and Village House Rents into better order and this

good work has been continued in 1895. As regards Squatt-

ers' Licenses, the authority of the Secretary of State has

been obtained for writing off $770.07 which was irrecover-

able, and sanction has been asked for writing off further

sums
