The reply to be addressed to

"The Secretary."

Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company:

Offices, 122, Leadenhall Street, E.C.

17th February 1897.

Sir,

157

Adverting to my letter of the 15th ultimo, on the subject of

the imposition of light dues at Hong Kong, it is perhaps right

that I should state, in order to prevent any misapprehension,

that the further representations in regard to this question,

which were therein referred to as coming from Hong Kong by the

mail of 13th January, are contained in the letter signed by the

Company and other principal representatives of British Shipping

which trades regularly with that port, forwarded to Mr Secretary

Chamberlain under date the 13th instant.

Sir,

I am,

Your obedient Servant,

H.R. & D.I.

Secretary.

The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies,

COLONIAL OFFICE,

S.W.
