I am directed by the Secretary of State for War
to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 2nd
Instant (No.1268/97) transmitting a copy of the
Regulations which it is proposed to issue in Hong Kong
relative to the grant of the Volunteer Long Service Medal
to Volunteers in that Colony.
In reply I am to acquaint you, for the information of Mr Chamberlain, that the Marquess of Lansdowne
recommends the approval of these Regulations subject
to certain slight amendments being made. A copy of the
amendments suggested is forwarded herewith.
