With reference to your letter of the 11th ultimo respecting the case of Mr J.R. Brass, Prison Warder in Hong Kong, who has been retired from the Colonial Service with a gratuity on the ground of ill-health, I am directed by the Secretary of State to acquaint you, for the information of Mr Secretary Chamberlain, that the case has been submitted to the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, with a view to the grant of a gratuity in respect of Mr Brass's Imperial service.

A copy of a report from the Medical Officer of Wormwood Scrubs respecting the condition of Mr Brass's health when he left the Imperial Service is forwarded herewith.
