The Undersigned Her Britannic Majesty's Envoy
Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Japan
hereby makes known to British Subjects resident in
or resorting to Japan that he has received a note
from the Japanese Government to the effect that owing
to the outbreak of the Pest in Formosa it has been
found necessary to enforce from May 5th, Medical
inspection in accordance with the Imperial Ordinance
No. 56 of May, 1894 against vessels arriving from
Formosa at the ports of Kobe, Nagasaki, Shimonoseki
Moji, Ujina, Sankaku, Kagoshima Naha.
When it is found necessary to enforce disinfection
in the case of vessels arriving at any of these
ports, with the exception of Nagasaki, Kobe and Shimonoseki
they shall be directed to proceed to the nearest
Medical inspection station.
When vessels required to undergo Medical Inspection
are bound for the port of Kobe they shall stop at
