Sir,

27 October 1897.
India Office, Whitehall, London, S.W.
In continuation of the letter from this Office of the 26th of August last, No.F.3961, and with reference to your letter of the 25th Instant, I am directed to state, for the information of Mr.Secretary Chamberlain, that the Government of India have reported that the pensionable Indian service of Dr.P.B. Ayres, at the time of his transfer to Colonial Service, amounted to 2 years and 7 months, and that, excluding allowances which are not part of salary as defined by the Indian pension regulations, his pay was Rs.200 a month.
The Secretary of State for India in Council has accordingly sanctioned the grant to Dr.Ayres, with effect from the 29th of June last inclusive, of a pension of 60ths of his pay, or Rs.6.10.8 a month, and the Accountant General at this Office has been authorized to issue the equivalent of that pension, at the exchange of 1/9 the rupee.
I have the honour to be, Sir, Your obedient Servant,
The Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.
