With reference to the enquiry concerning the pension of Dr. P. J. Ayres, late Colonial Surgeon at Hong Kong, which was made in the letter from the Colonial Office of the 3rd ultimo, No. 6426/97, I am directed to forward, for the information of Mr. Secretary Chamberlain, a copy of a telegraphic correspondence between the Government of India on the subject.

I am to add that a further communication will be made to you on receipt of the letter from the Government of India which is referred to in the last sentence of the Viceroy's telegram. 17th August.
