The Bombay Government have asked that, if possible, the temporary services of Dr. J.A. Lowson of the Colonial Service may be obtained for temporary employment on the treatment and prevention of plague in the Bombay presidency.

The Secretary of State for India directs me to enquire whether Mr. Secretary Chamberlain would permit Dr. Lowson to volunteer for plague duty at Bombay.

The duty might last for 4 to 8 months.

I have the honour to be,

Your obedient Servant,
