LONDON, S.W.,
2nd January, 1897.
I am directed by the Board of Trade to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 16th Ultimo (241152/gt) asking whether, in the opinion of this Department, any amendment of Section 5 (1) (b) of the Hong Kong Ordinance 26 of 1891 is necessary in order to define more clearly what certificates a Foreign ship should possess in order to be exempted from survey in Hong Kong, and whether provision should be made for the issue of Passenger Certificates to vessels which are exempted from survey under that section.
Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.
