The National Bank of China to Crown Agents.3 TO 17,
Gentlemen,
53 Old Broad Street,
London, E.C.
Note Issue in Hong Kong.
15th December 1897.

Our Chief Manager at Hong Kong writes us that he had the honour of an interview on 19th October with the Hon'ble the Colonial Secretary there Mr J.H. Stewart Lockhart with reference to our Note Issue.
As you are no doubt aware the Government at Hong Kong require approved Securities to the extent of one third of the Note Issue of this Bank to be lodged with you in return for which they will instruct their various offices in Hong Kong that our Notes may be accepted as cash.
Our Chief Manager enquired of Mr Stewart Lockhart whether Chinese Government Bonds would be held to be approved security but was referred to you on that point.
We should be glad to hear, therefore, whether you are willing to accept Chinese Government Bonds from us? If not, kindly inform us what you would consider approved securities.
B'd of Trade
Yours &c.,
Sd) R. N. Inster.
Acting Manager.
