Referring to your letter No.19782/97 of the 14th September I have the honour to enclose in original for return three vouchers which we have received from the Agent General for South Australia for the sum of £159.15.0 due by the Government of Hong Kong on account of salary and pension paid by the Government of South Australia to Mr E.J. Eitel from 15th June to 14th September.
We have no authority from the Government of Hong Kong to make these payments, but propose with the approval of the Secretary of State to pay them and report our action to the Colonial Government.
