With reference to your letter No.2015/97 of 30th January I have the honour to report that Mr A. Campbell has refunded to us the amount of half salary drawn during his leave of absence together with a sum of £1-19/- for his medical examination and it will be seen from the accompanying 29th January copy of a memorandum from our Shipping Agents that the

Peninsular and Oriental Company have agreed to cancel his return ticket and refund the equivalent of the amount paid for it.

We have accordingly placed the sums of £20-0-10 and £28-4-4 for salary and medical examination to the credit of the Hong Kong account for the current month.

We conclude that the Government of Hong Kong will be informed by the Secretary of State of Mr Campbell's resignation.
