Extension & we are not to make any into Harbour.

With reference to the diversion of the nullah, our Engineer is looking into the matter, & we shall probably have to make special arrangements.

In dealing with the silt, I wish to write to Major Pilkington about the harbour, jetty into it.

Then is our harbour - I also warned him that if he diverts the Nullah into his new basin he will probably fill it up with the sand which comes down in quantities after heavy rains. (Circumstances that a civilian should have to warn these scientific Engineers against so obvious a danger, which must be self-evident to everyone who looks down on the Nullah in wash).

The harbour in wet weather is badly disposed to laps.

Mr. Chamberlain thought it was not necessary.

The Admiralty were against it, but the Governor thought it necessary - 16/5.

The draft telegram was sent on by the department concerned - but I thought we might act without reference to the Colony. I am not sure whether I was meant to telegraph in any case; or whether I had failed to place the question before him clearly enough $29/5$.
