407

Sir,

The third Schedule above referred to

35 Queen's Road Hongkong 3 September 1897

Mr. Williams Baker, lately an Inspector in the Police Force, has requested us to prepare for him a Petition to His Excellency the Governor, not with the view of reinstatement but praying that his pension may not be lost to him.

In order to enable us to do so, it is essential that we should be in possession of a copy of the evidence given before the Captain's Superintendent of Police, upon which evidence our client was dismissed from the Force.

Mr. Baker was present at and heard the evidence, but he is naturally unable to report it in detail or give us the necessary particulars.

Under these circumstances we beg to request that a copy of it may be furnished to us on his behalf.

We do not know in whose possession the original evidence is, we are not therefore irregular in making this application.

We have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient Servants,

Deacon & Hastings

(ad)

The Honble.

J. H. Stewart Lockhart Colonial Secretary.
