The gens has been to 720 per annum, last advance being in 1891.

I would respectfully urge my petitions for favourable considerations on the following grounds.

1stly, the steady increase in cost of living in this Colony following the shrinkage in value of the Dollars.

2dly, as a personal matter I might be allowed to state I have been obliged for many years past to maintain my wife at home, & the monthly remittances are ruinous to me at the constant drops in exchange.

3ally, I would respectfully refer to the fact that my salary to-day with exchange compensation converted to Sterling is 21 per cent less than where I joined the Colonial Service in 1884, the dollar then standing at 3/10 and my salary $2280 per annum.

4thly, The work in my office has greatly increased in the past few years-- Land sales, frequent, Field Office work in settlement of boundaries, work in readjustment & disposal...
