Sir,

I have the honour to forward enclosed letter from Mr. Tutcher for transmission to the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies in connection with a telegram which was sent a couple of days ago with the sanction of His Excellency the Governor in which Mr. Tutcher applied for the post of Director of the Mauritius Botanic Gardens.

I have much pleasure in testifying to the satisfactory manner in which Mr. Tutcher has discharged his duties while in this Colony and in recommending him for promotion. At the same time I should be sorry to lose him as Assistant.
