It would not facilitate matters on the present occasion to send orders for these coins to the Indian Mints, since those mints have not got the necessary dies and punches; but the Crown Agents have already made arrangements to obtain them through the Birmingham Mint, as quickly as possible.
With regard to the last words of your Despatch No.178 of the 16th August last and to your reference in the Telegram under acknowledgement to serious loss of revenue resulting if sufficient supplies are not forwarded, I may observe that the object of the supply of subsidiary coin is to meet the necessities and legitimate requirements of the community of the Colony, and that the Government in ordering the supply should be guided by these considerations alone.
