Lane, I recognised him. I asked him if he has a pass. He said
"I am an excise officer & do not require one". I was certain
that he was not an excise officer. I arrested him for being
abroad without light or pass.
I took him to the Central. He was in possession of $32 and some change, a watch & chain & 2 sovereigns attached as appendages. He bailed himself out. I went back to
my duty and he met me in Hollywood Road. He asked me to give
him a chance and to say nothing about the badge & license
that had been given to him by Cheng-On.
He may have some animosity against me, I do
not know.
I have a clear conscience as I have said
before that I have received no money.
