In compliance with the request contained in your letters Nos. 74 and 75 of 11th January, we proceeded to the Observatory on the 29th of that month in order to enquire into certain matters in connection with the working of the Observatory during the absence of Dr. Doberck.

These matters were, by your minute of 11th ultimo in C.O. No. 3287/94, defined as "the statements made by Dr. Doberck especially against Mr. Plummer".

The statements referred to are to the following effect.

A. That Mr. Plummer was solely responsible for the present state of the Observatory (which was implied to be, and which Dr. Doberck informed us he found to be unsatisfactory).

B. That he had improperly discontinued observations without obtaining His Excellency's permission.

The Honourable

The Acting Colonial Secretary.
