See the Retrenchment Committee's Report - Hp 495. They recommended that on the occurrence of a vacancy the salary of an appointment should be reduced from $2000 to $1800 per annum. This proposal cannot be carried out if promotion is given in the office, as Mr Rozario's previous salary was $1728. The Committee suggested that the scale of the post be returned to $480 to $720.
