master told me to give him a collar if he would not drive the people away.

Next day after Lo Chat & the Indian Sergeant spoke to me I paid No.566 $1 a day.

364

I used to pay him when he was off duty in plain clothes. I paid him at the houses under erection near West Street. I used to pay him every 3, 5 or 7 days. My master paid me every day & I kept in my pocket at any time that I saw No.566 I paid him. He used to give me 50 cents sometimes in 10 days and sometimes 30 or 40 cents in 6 or 7 days.

I continued to pay him from the 3rd moon up to the 19th of the 5th Moon. I cannot remember any exact date that I paid him. I have burnt my book.

After the payments commenced No.566 did not trouble the watchmen.
