frighten my watch men.

Latterly you did. You went right into the

lane and frightened them.

I have not seen you in the lane, I never

saw you before my arrest.

My fokies told me about the way you patrol-

led the lane. I do not know about it of my own knowledge. All that

I have stated concerning you is what other people told me. If any

one told me to-night that you were coming into the Gaol to murder

me because I gave evidence against you to-day, I would believe it.

I believe what people tell me, but I

would have to take the matter into consideration to see what it is

worth.

It was A Fuk that came to me on your be-

half. He was still at the Yan Wo Boarding House when I was arrest-

ed. I know him. I believed A Fuk when he came to me because you

had been to Wa Lane first. I did not know whether you had or not,

my fokies told me. If A Fuk had come to me and said that Sergeant

No. 1,008 wanted money I would not pay him because no Sergeant No.

1,008 had been to Wa Lane. My fokies never reported that a

Sergeant of that number was there. If my fokies had told me that

Sergeant No. 1008 had been to Wa Lane, and A Fuk had come and ask-

ed me for money for him I would have paid it.

I did not dare to send my fokies to ask

you
