This is the only entry that
refers to you in all my books and papers.
This list was written a long time ago. I do
not know what year it was. It was not eight years ago. It was
written about two years ago. This is not the first list I wrote.
I cannot say how many years it takes for a paper like this to get
so torn and dirty that it has to be copied out afresh. This list
has to be taken out every day for use and reference. When a list
became quite full, I used to write out a new one. It would not
take five years to change a list. If the accounts were confused
and names effaced then I would write out a new list. It would not
take four years to render a change necessary. A list might be
changed once in a little over a year or once in a few months. I
said just now that none of my books or papers contained any entry
referring to you except this one list. This list is a copy.

number was copied from a list like this one. I made no mistake in
