I said "I am ready to give him a few cent pieces a day, you go and see whether he would be willing to accept it or not.' A fuk said if you give him 50 cents, it is so small that I do not think he would take it. But anyhow I will ask him about it.
Next day A Fuk came and said that No. 8 was willing to accept it. Then I paid 50 cents a day and after that No. 8 did not come to disturb the place.
The payments were begun the year before last. I paid him for about two years. I made the last payment on the 19th of the 5th moon (18th June).

I wrote the list on which the entry No. 8 occurs myself. It has not been altered in any way since it was in my possession.

It was the year before last that you troubled my gambling house. I do not know if it was in 1894 because I do not know the English years. If this year is 1897 then it was in 1895. I knew that it was the year before last Chinese counting.
