I was a prisoner in Victoria Gaol undergoing a sentence of 9 months imprisonment with hard labour for keeping a common gaming house at No.2 W Lane.

I recognise the paper produced. It is a list of persons to whom bribes were paid in respect of the fanten garbling house at Wa Lane which I kept. I wrote this list myself. I see the entry "Lux Tax & dollars Tang". This means that I paid to Tang Chung to pay to Mr. Corcoran #3 a day.

This payment was commenced in the not season the year before last. It was either in Jan. or Feb., soon.

Young Fat and Mr. Cheung came to my place one night between the 8th. and 9th. moon this year before last. Young Fat brought Mr. Cheung because the latter did not know my place. I was then living at Lower Lascar Row. I do not remember the No. of the house, but it was on the first floor of a barber's shop.

That was my out office. The gambling was being carried on at Wa Lane. Mr. Cheung said that the No. 8 Red Policeman wanted $3 a day because every one was getting money. I said that I was not the only one who kept the gambling house and that if the Cheung Hing Street gambling...
