room that is there. There was no one else present. After four or five months there was some trouble between me and the Sergeant Major as to the repayment of the money. He told me that the Indian who had lent the money was bothering him and that I had better pay him up. It was at this time that I wrote the documents produced.
After two or three months more I paid off the money. I paid it to the watchman at the Signal Station at Kowloon. I received in return the promissory note.
No questions.
Adjourned to get the man Gunda Singh.
2. Gunda Singh states:- I am an excise officer in the employ of the Opium Farm, my pay is $10 a month. I have been in Hong Kong nearly five years, I have all the time been in the same employ.
Last year at the end of the year the Sergeant Major Utter Singh recommended me to lend Mr. Ca Rocha fifty dollars. I did not know Mr. Ca Rocha before. I have never lent him money before. I handed over fifty dollars to the Sergeant Major to give Mr. Rocha.
About 6 months ago Rocha gave me back the money in exchange for his promissory note at the house of a friend of Mr. Rocha near No.8 Police Station. In a street off Ladder Street, Rozario Street I think. I am quite sure that it was in Hong Kong that Mr. Rocha handed me back the money.
No questions.
