I dismissed him in December last for being engaged in money lending transactions contrary to the enclosed Police regulation.

I attach for your information a copy of Mr May's letter of the 4th December last and of its enclosures, and also a copy of the written opinion of the Acting Attorney General, Mr Pollock, whom I consulted in regard to this case.

I regret that I am unable to support the prayer of the Petition. The Petitioner's long service and position in the Force, in my opinion, merely aggravate the offence of which he was found guilty.

I have every reason to believe he has been accorded a fair hearing, and I am not aware of any precedent for the grant of a pension to a dismissed officer.
