2. I request you to inform De Wijen Kaia that I feel confident that reflection upon himself has been intended by Mr Jauri's appointment and that I cannot interfere in the matter.

With regard to Dr Wright's statement that he has received no reply to the Memorial which he forwarded in reply to the 18th March, 1896, I request that you will express to him my regret that, owing to an oversight, no definite reply was given to him at the time: the points raised by him were, however, carefully considered & I saw no sufficient reason for interference.
