A considerable proportion of those who died

were moribund on admission.

In addition, there were brought in dead to

wait for burial the bodies of 94 males and 27 females,121 n

all. In the case of these an approximate diagnosis of the

causes of death was made by inspection of the bodies and

careful cross-examination of the relatives as to the duratio

and symptons of the illness preceding death.

Of the 784 cases treated,116 were

treated

by Dr. Chung according to Western methods. Among the cases

discharged were 9 sent to Government Civil Hospital,2 to the

Government Lunatic Asylum,1 to Italian Convent,2 to Nether-

and 8 to Kennedy town Hospital. sole Hospital The last named included 5 cases of small-pox

and 3 of bubonic plague. All cases of suspected Plague are

isolated in the Receiving Ward, and specimens of the blood

sent to Government Civil Hospital for microscopic examina-

tion and diagnosis.
